The hacker group claims to be involved in the crashes. A hacker group calling itself Cyber Av3ngers claimed on social media that it had hacked ten water treatment plants in Israel. Among the affected cities are Hedera, Palmachim, Sorek, Ashkelon, Haifa, Khorazim, Kfar Haruv, Taberia, Eilat and Daniel. It was not possible to get confirmation that these objects were actually attacked. IDE Technologies, which manages some of these facilities, did not respond to questions about the details of the incident. However, in the video published by hackers, there are frames from the software menu, where the IDE Technologies logo is visible. According to the video materials and statements of the group, the hack led to the shutdown of industrial systems that automatically monitor the operation of stations, sensors and controls that allow operators to manually control the system. In one of the frames of the video, on the screen with information about the level of acidity of the system, a request appears about the desire to "stop cleaning" Hackers also posted a video showing the process of hacking using the command line, including the IP addresses of the attacked systems. Some of these IP addresses belong to a private segment and are associated with the Siemens company that manages the software in the screenshot. Cyber Av3ngers has previously reported cyber attacks on Israeli power plants. However, an analysis by Kaspersky Lab found that the claims of the previous attack contained reused images and data from another hacktivist group, Moses Staff, which is linked to Iran and aims to harm Israeli companies by "stealing and publishing sensitive data." Securelist notes that there is another active hacker group called "Cyber Avengers", active since 2020 and directed against Israeli organizations, mainly those responsible for the country's critical infrastructure. However, no documented links were found between this group and Cyber Av3ngers.
